Feast Of Our Lady of Ransom Celebrated

Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu:- The-10-day annual feast of Our Lady of Ransom was celebrated here with a grand finale on December 13.

The church is situated on the surf-beaten shore of the Bay of Bengal at the Cape where three major seas meet and mingle.

On the ninth day of the feast, a statue of St. Joseph was taken around the village in a chariot, witnessed by Christians and devotees of other faiths. On the final day, the statues of saints Joseph and Mary were taken round. Devotees from various parts of India and other countries who thronged Kanyakumari for a dip in the holy seas, witnessed the chariot procession and paid reverential homage to the saints.

Bishop Peter Remigius of Kottar officiated at the Mass on the final day. Special Masses were conducted in English and Malayalam for people from other states and countries.

Our Lady of Ransom is said to be the one who had redeemed Christians from the captivity of Muslims, and made them migrate to Spain in 1218 A.D.
