Upgrade your work skills

During your career, you might come to a point where you feel that your skills aren’t keeping up with the fast, ever-changing pace of the industry. So, how do you get yourself back up to speed?

Whether it’s a new tool that you are not familiar with, a search algorithm you are struggling to grasp or a social platform you can’t get your head around, it’s a scary situation when you feel that you are not as competent at your job as you used to be. But, there are few things you can do to upgrade your job skills:

Take An Online Course
If it’s more technical skills like coding or analytics that you’re struggling to keep up-to-date with, then there are plenty of online courses you can take to brush up on your skills. That way, you come out with a recognised qualification at the end of it.

Read more blogs
In an industry such as digital, even the most advanced courses lag behind the evolution of the sector, and some can become instantly out of date Studying industry blogs are a great way of staying in the loop with any changes or advances in your particular niche, so it’s a good idea to have them all bookmarked and sign up for their newsletters.

Start An Out-Of-Work Project
Another way of updating your skills is to address the issue head-on and start developing your skills in your own time. Whether it’s building a website using a new platform, setting up a page on a new social platform, or using a new coding language, using these on your own personal project is a great way of developing your skills.Also, personal projects are great things to put on your CV as they show that you’re passionate about your career outside of the workplace.

Enroll in public speaking
For some people, standing before a room full of people-or even three - can be more petrifying than skydiving. Begin to overcome those fears by joining a public speaking class or club where you will learn to orate like a politician, improve your overall communication skills and network with other like-minded folks.

Do a puzzle
Even your train commute can be a setting for work skills improvement. Whip out the daily crossword puzzle, carry a sudoku book in your bag, or tap the word puzzle app of your choice and flex that powerful muscle in your head. Puzzles can broaden your vocabulary as well as your ability to problem solve by forcing you to think differently about the task.

Volunteer
Volunteering has to be one of the most personally rewarding activities in which one can participate. It’s also a great venue for learning teamwork, improving communication and picking up new abilities that could be beneficial in office environment.

Find the gaps
Are there any gaps in your set of skills? You may have already received some feedback from an employer which identified where you could improve. There may be jobs that you wish you could bid for, but you’re missing particular experience or qualifications. Pinpoint these holes in your resume as opportunities to better yourself.

Attitude matters
Above all, one thing to be kept in minds is your: attitude, behaviour and interpersonal skills makes a lot of difference when your are working. Adopt yourself to the new technics which is changing every hour and every day. Make plan in beginning of the day and review it at the end of the day in order to evaluate yourself.

  • You cannot count on anyone else to manage your career. You must learn to do it yourself.
