Residents Say no to Sky Walks in Mahim West

A delegation comprising of the Bombay Catholic Sabha Office bearers, members of the protest committee and other residents met the local MLA, Shri Nitin Sardesai on Sunday, 29th November, 2009, at 5.30 p.m.

While the delegation was emphatic that they did not wish to have any Skywalks in Mahim West, their fears were totally allayed as Shri Sardesai assured us that with his consistent efforts he will positively ensure that the plan for the Skywalks is cancelled.  The justification for this becomes easier since thousands of residents along all the concerned roads have signed against the proposed Skywalks, citing the very obvious reasons that the pavements are broad enough and the roads too.  All the authorities need to do is build two overbridges, extending the railway over-bridges, on the Tulsi Pipe Road, and put a railing barricade across the centre of the main road to prevent jaywalkers, with a strict fine for the offending citizens.  Of course, the matter becomes easier because all the elected representatives, except the MP Shri Eknath Gaikwad, have also given their letters in writing against the proposed Skywalks.

While this is a first small victory for the citizens, we are sure this would not be possible without the wholehearted support of our newly elected MLA Shri Nitin Sardesai.  Shri Sardesai has been very approachable and cooperative and has assured us that he is always available to deal with issues of the local residents who have elected him to office.

After a long spell the residents of Constituency No. 181 feel confident and supported by the assurance that at last we have an MLA who will always be there for us in time of need.

The Bombay Catholic Sabha, has initiated this move of meeting and extending collaboration with the elected MLAs in the different constituencies of the city, as we need to become responsible citizens and ensure that our city gets its dues.
