Mangalore:- The district administration is getting ready to hold elections to 203 gram panchayats in five taluks, which together have a population of 12.69 lakh.

The 203 gram panchayats have 3,275 members and the total electorate is 9.47 lakh.

The talukwise voter population is as follows: Mangalore has a voter base of 2.58 lakh; Bantwal (2.67 lakh), Belthangady (1.78 lakh), Puttur (1.55 lakh) and the voting population of Sullia is 87,063, the least among the five taluks.

As many as 1,112 polling boths are being set up in the five taluks and of them 397 are sensitive and 224 hyper sensitive. There will be 200 electoral officers and 210 assistant electoral officers on duty. The process of appointing these officers has started. There will be 14 election observers at the rate of one each for 15 gram panchayats.
