Karnataka Examination Authority to Update Students via Mobiles
Bangalore:- Beep! Beep! 'Your CET 2010 application forms are sent. Please collect from the college. Thank You. Yours, Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).' Don't dismiss it as a promotional message or switch off your mobile. The Karnataka Examination Authority will update nearly 1.70 lakh students via SMS.
KEA plans to introduce it from CET 2010 and send text alerts to students on study leave. With the CET process -- seat matrix and fee structure, especially for the medical course -- delayed this year, KEA couldn't issue application forms as per the schedule.
"By now, the first phase of the process would have been completed. But we still haven't issued the forms. Only when we get the seat matrix and fee structure for both engineering and medical courses can we print the brochure," sources in the education department told TOI.
The official said they could issue forms without the brochure but students might need the brochure for filling up the form. "The brochure has all the details, from instructions on how to fill the form to counselling," he explained.
With the II PUC exams scheduled from next month, most students are rushing through their eleventh-hour preparations and not going to college anymore. "They might miss out on the application forms. Hence, we're thinking of SMS alerts," the official said. The notification will be displayed on college noticeboards too. KEA has already requested principals to inform and help students to fill up the forms.
The official made it clear that students should not be made to suffer because of "lapses in the system". The KEA will take the contact numbers of students from the PU department and send out bulk SMSes. The officials could be taking BSNL's help for this.
New feature in the form
A higher education department official said there's a new feature in the application form. In order to get feedback on CET rural coaching, the form will ask students if they have undergone coaching. If the student has availed of rural coaching, the department will track her CET performance. After studying the consolidated results, they will assess the programme and see what improvements are needed. For the first time, the department has initiated free CET coaching for rural students as many of them can't afford it.
How to go about it
Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) will send brochure-cum-application form through the schools/colleges located within Karnataka studying 2nd PU or Class 12 upon the submission of Demand Draft for Rs 650 to the principals in advance drawn in favour of 'The Executive Director, Karnataka Examination Authority, Bangalore' payable at Bangalore. The fee is Rs 500 for students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribe and Category-1. The last date for the submission of Demand Draft to the principals of the schools and colleges within Karnataka will be March 3.
