Konkani Writer Poet J. B. Moraes Felicitated In Goa

J.B. Moraes, the well known Konkani poet and writer, was felicitated by the Goa Konkani Akademy for his lifetime work of Konkani Literature. On July 25th in the newly built Ravindra Bhavan in Madgaum, in a picturesque grand programme   J.B. Moraes was felicitated by chief guest  Shri Sudhir Kakkar,  wellknown English writer, in the presence of the Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Digambar Kamath.  Moraes was decorated by a showl, fruits and flowers and with Rs.25,000 in cash. Most imporatantly, Moraes was handed over the 'Madhav Manjunath Shanbhag Konkani Bhasha-Seva  Jeevan-Gaurow' an artistically made placard. Along with him few wellknown Konkani writers of Goa like Shri Nagesh Karmali was awarded Sahitya Pratibha Puraskar,  Suresh Jaiwant Borkar was awarded Sahitya Pragnya Puraskar, Assistant Editor Babli Naik of 'Sunaparant' the only daily in Konkani, was awarded the 'Konkani Seva Puraskar'.    Shri J.B. Moraes in his speech mentioned several Goan writers who are close to him and their writings. He also said that many Goan Konkani leaders and particularly Shri Uday Bembre had helped in rejuvenating  Mumbai's Konkani Bhasha Mandal about twenty ears ago. He also mentioned that Maharashtra lacked a Konkani Academy and called the Goa Konkani Academy to help us in our efforts in this matter.
Apart from Chief Minister Digambar Kamath and   chief guest Sudhir Kakkar, there were also present on the stage were N. Shivadas,  President of Goa Konkani Akademi, Vinci Quadras, Vice-President, and Damodar Mauzo, wellknown writer. A large crowd of literature lovers was present and they were not disappointed.
