Konkani Singing Competition by MKKS, Mumbai

The Maharashtra Konkani Kala Sanstha, Mumbai, organised its 5 th Konkani Amateur Singing Competetion at Our Lady's Home, Dadar, Mumbai, on 7th November,2010 at 10.30am. The Chief Guest for the Contest was Mrs Bella Coutinho, a choreographer for Folk Dances & wife of the well-known Tiatrist, late Mr.Seby Coutinho. 3 personalities, well-known for their contribution towards Konkani Music, namely, Tony Dias, Nephie Rod Pradhan &  Fr. Baptist Pais, judged the 60 contestants who took part in the Solo, Duo-Duet, & Group singing in 3 different age groups. Mr. Lawrence Coelho & Mrs Susan Coelho, of DIVO & SECULAR CITIZEN were the Guest Of Honour at the Event which started with a prayer by Divo Sahitya Puroskar Awardee. Rev. Fr. Baptist Pais. Francis Fernandes, the secretary of the MKKS was the compered the Contest.


31 enteries were got in through the hard work and dedication of Divo Life Time Achievement Awardee, Mr. Victor Concessao from the Sacared Heart Parish, Mahakali, Andheri (e). Mr. Leo Fernandes from Maharashtra Konkan Association brought in 9 enteries.   It was a pleasure listening to New Talents at this well-organized Competetion. The MKKS has promised the winners, a platform to show-case their talent at the LORNA NITE, which is to be held in the month of January,2011.


There were 14 winners in the First & Second Place in the 7 different sections.  The ALSHSAN GUDINHO SUPER SINGER ROLLING TROPHY in memory of late C. ALVARES was given to Miss MYLIN DANTAS  and The ELCY DE ELLY MINI ROLLING TROPHY in memory of JAMES DE ELLY was won by Mr. AUGUSTINE COELHO with cash prizes of Rs.3000/- & Rs.2000/- respectively along with Gift Hampers. Mrs Susan Coelho, gave  Certificates of Appreciation & gifts to all the 60 Participants. Mrs Bella Coutinho, handed over Certificates & Trophies to the winners.   


The Competetion ended with a Vote Of Thanks by Mr. Evan Fernandes, the President Of the MKKS & a  prayer followed by a Hymn by Rev. Fr. Baptist Pais.
