Two Thousand Mangaloreans gathered for Monti Fest Celebrations at Vasai

Mumbai, Sep 13:- Vasai Konkani Welfare Association (Regd) celebrated Monti Fest yesterday in a very solemn manner in Vasai. The fest started with a procession with a decorated "Maria Bambina" (Ballok Mari) statue from Manikpur Cricket ground to Gonsalo Garcia Church. The procession was started with a Banner of the association, followed by Brass Band playing Konkani Hymns, Alter Servants, Floral White Kids, "Maria Bambina" statue on a decorated open jeep, Floral colourful kids, Floral Elders, Gentlemen and ladies holding novem, vegetable, fruits and suger canes, Other gentlemen and ladies. The procession started at 9.30am went on state highways of Vasai and
reached near the grotto at the church at 10.20am. Fr. Richard Lasrado, Parish Priest of Thokur Parish, Mangalore was the main celebrant of the Konkani Mass. Fr. Lasrado also gave an heart touching sermon on strengthening our family bonds and respecting our mothers.
Sanna, Roce and Novem (to drink) was served to all public after the mass. There was a beautiful Konkani cultural programmes presented by Nine different groups of Vasai. Hilarious skits from Felix DSouza Malvani were the added attraction. Three cash prizes were awarded to the lucky lunch coupon holders.
Fr. Nazareth Gabru Parish Priest of Gonsalo Garcia, Fr. Ozy Gonsalves Parish Priest of St. Ignatius Loyola Church, Fr. Fernandes Louis, Fr. Francis Dabre, Industrialist Mr. Robert Menezes were present were also present.
The different groups presented attractive Konknai cultural items. The programme started with a Prayer Song by Arnold Pinto, Clara, Vincent, Wilson, Doroti, Jessy, Prescilla and Mable, Kuru Kuru Kana by Jyotsna, Jaison, Flavita, Rebekka, Rechel and Jessita, Angel and Mariol Under the direction of Jyothi Abrev, Kharvi (fishermen) dance by Roylee, Anita, Jason, Robin and Royce, A skit "Koro Sontos" written and directed by Agnes Menezes with the leadership of "Hilda DSouza, President of the Marian Sodality. The actors were Agness, Hilda, Zeena, Seema, Irene, Hema, Brigit and Celestine, Goyncho Manddo of Shetkar, Kunnbi, Render, Kharvi presented by Celesti, Joel, Eldon, Caren, Sharel, Mellissa, Queenie, Carel and Roshal, "Goa Amchem Shantikayechem" Dance presented by Jyotsna, Anita, Cristol, Andrea, Lolita, Clavencia, Sonia and Alisha, "Monti Maie" tablo by Sania, Plessitta, Amanda, Venissa, Sheetal under the direction of Blanche Alvares.
President Stephne Fernandes welcomed the guest, Secretary Ancy DSouza Paladka compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks. Traditional "Novem Jevonn" was served to all the people and the "Kobu" (Suger cane) was distributed.
