Goan Review celebrates "World Konkani Day - 2010"

Mumbai:- Goan Review Art Foundation (GRAF) the cultural body of the popular Konkani-English bi-monthly The Goan Review celebrates the World Konkani Day 2010 at Antonio D'Souza High School Hall, Byculla, Mumbai on Sunday 29th August, 2010 at 7.00 p.m.

Renowned Konkani litterateur and Sahitya Akademy award winner Smt. Sheela Kolambkar will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and address the gathering while Konkani activist and social worker Shri Lawrence D'Souza and President of the Federation of all Goan Clubs Felix Dias will be the guests of honour.


World Konkani Day is being celebrated in recognition of Konkani as one of the national languages of the country. This year, August 20, commemorates the 18th anniversary of inclusion of Konkani in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution.

This great day will be celebrated with a brief  talk on the several  achievements of the Konkani language followed by cultural items highlighting  rich traditional culture of  the Konkanis, consisting of play 'Vantte', Mando-dulpod, folk dance, Dancing sessions with lots of spot prizes and
mouth-watering Konkan Culinary delicacies.

The stress of this year's celebration is on the many clubs (kudd) of the  Goans & Mangaloreans in Mumbai, which are slowly becoming extinct. Prominent Konkani personalities who have rendered yeoman service to Konkani language, art and culture will be felicitated at this function.
